How Much Do Public Records Cost in Washington? Inspecting a public record is free of charge. RCW 42.56.120 (1) states that no agency should charge requesters an inspection or search fee. However, an agency may charge a reasonable fee for duplicating records or allowing its equipment to be used for the duplication.
